15 lessons to learn from journaling

15 lessons to learn from journaling

I'm not one to say write down your feelings, record your day or spill your guts. Writing your heartwords through journaling is so much more than a spillage of words on paper. It’s about getting in touch with your Soul’s spirit and allowing her words of wisdom and light to come forth.

How to journal better

How to journal better

What if every week a prompt showed up in your inbox and all you had to do was commit to the practice. No more thinking of what you’ll write (I know that that can put a serious kink the works big time!)

How to Make Vulnerability Work For You Instead of Against you

Why do we stop dead in our tracks when we come face to face with the thing we want? It's all about a teeny tiny thing called TRUST. Find out how I make my own vulnerability work for me and not against me.

You can't pour from an empty cup :: how to bring in more self-love

self-love-post-pinterest.jpg

one of the things i didn't do for myself ( or knew it was even possible back then ) was to show me some self-love.

it was a concept so foreign to me that I never really thought about it.

a few years ago though ( june 2011 to be exact ), as I began to step into this new phase of mindfulness and awareness, I realized that this one thing, SELF-LOVE, was key to my existence as a whole human being and a self defined, powerhouse of a woman...yeh, I went there!

today I definitely understand the significance of self-love

and the huge impact it can have on my mind, my heart, my Soul and my spirit.

there's a lot of talk out there in the ether about self-love but before you dismiss this one, hear me out.

some call this practice self-care. I still prefer to use the words SELF-Love, because it is in this act of taking time for ourselves, for our very being that we are able to give so completely and freely to others.

whether that action is a thought or a practice or even just a pause in the busyness, it's about bringing love inward and gracing ourselves with something we so easily can, and should,  give to ourselves more regularly.

and the good part is that for most of these practices there's no waiting around for the right time to do it.  you just do it. I gotta tell you, there's something so sweet and purposefully grounding about allowing our self love to unfurl.

so you might be asking yourself, what the heck does she mean cause it sure sounds different.  what I mean is this,

SELF-Love is about....

  • acts of kindness for one
  • being tender + sometimes passionate + always mindful
  • cherishing the sheer enough-ness of you
  • taking up space
  • finding time to reenergize
  • shoring up the parts of you that need support
  • kindness and compassion directed inward
  • knowing in your deepest space that you are worthy
  • showering yourself  with pure, unadulterated, unselfish love
  • taking that one breath to bring you back to center

when we begin with self-love we begin from center, from that inner goddess space that holds all our truths, our knowings.  it's from this space that we open up and fill up over time, it's from this space that we can now offer all that we have to give because......

You can’t pour from an empty cup.
...fill it up buttercup, fill it up with SELF-Love.
— Grace

If you need help to deep dive into beginning or reestablishing your own SELF-Love practice, I've created an short email course "5 days of SELF-Love" that takes you through 5 lessons of SELF-Love plus how to make space for yourself in a kind and loving way.

take care of yourself.  begin now.

till next time,

Grace

100 days project :: a new twist

for my 100 days, you know i have to twist things up right?  one cannot be like everyone else after all. i tell ya......i gotta be me, the only me there is.

so here goes.  i've talked before about the "art every day month" { #aedm2015 } challenge i joined in november last year.  that was a total blast!  no pressure to create.  no committing to pushing out one type of artwork.  nothing but having fun sitting in my creativity pool, dabbling, getting serious, taking 5 mins art breaks or sometimes getting lost in my art.  whatever me and my muse wanted to get up to, we did.

ahhhhh...it felt so damn good.

after the month finished i knew i wanted to recreate that feeling about art,  that air of laissaez-faire* that i had somehow lost whenever i approached my art before.

*lais·sez-faire { ˌlesā ˈfer/ } noun
   - a policy or attitude of letting things take their own course, without interfering.

the #aedm2015 instagram challenge brought it all home to me.  it let me know that it was okay to take a break for art just for the sake of art.  i mean really?  is it that hard to get to my studio { a mere 2 ft away i might add, ha! } and create?  no, not at all.  but apparently i must have rescinded permission to play.  doing any art was either for classes or for work.

so what's a girl to do after feeling that good?  step into it more often of course!  over the last 2 months i thought and thought about how i could incorporate that feeling into my everyday without feeling the pressure to commit.  and that's how the "counting backwards 100 days of art" began to take shape in my mind.

my twist on the 100 days project

i knew i couldn't do 100 straight days in a row.  i'd drive myself bonkers after day 3, knowing i had 93 more to go.  ha!  but 100 sounds like such a good and solid number to strive for.  the other thing for me was i didn't want to arrive at #57 and find i was totally bored, fed up and quit right then and there, forever left that i didn't attain my goal { that's cappy brain thinking for sure }.

that's how i came up with 100 days in 366 / 2016 and counting backwards was the twist i put on it.  i get the high numbers  out of the way and end with the biggie....Number 1.  if i get 15 finished in one month and only 3 in the next that's all right by me...it'll all leads to 100 completed works.

sweet right?

no medium or type of artwork is off limits.  i might go thru a period of time working with just one medium...but then again, i might not.  no limits.  no parameters. no deadlines each month.

with that said, here's #100of100

No.100 of 100_100daysofart

i have a class coming up { one BADASS art journal - starting Feb 1st } using alcohol inks { AI } and wanted to explore it some more went ape sh*t crazy playing with them.  i made a few others but now, from these #artplay session with AI, i came up with a series that i'll turn into a class later in the year.  oh.em.gee. how i love serendipitous moments, don't you?

ok. now that i've let you in, it's back to work for me.

toodles,

G

living in the light

living in the light

one of the things i know for sure is......i always have to be true to my voice, my truth and stand in my light.

i am a journaler, and my journals are where i hold space for the words and the art and the ideas that matter to me so that i'm always living in the light rather than hiding in the dark.

i have a few journals where i create art { my art journals }, a couple of journals where i write my heart-words { to work thru issues and record my gratefuls } and then there's this virtual space, my blog, my public journal where i journal about creativity and business and laughter and everyday life,  a space where i choose time and time again to shine my light { altho hard this might sometimes be }, a place i get to share ME with YOU.

i started blogging years ago, { btw, this link is a hoot } at first because i wanted to share my work.  at that time i was an art quilter and loved the audience i built.  over the years i have made some wonderful cyber & in-person friends who are brilliant textile artists { susankarenwho are 2 very cool peeps } and, even tho i'm a mixed media artist now, this space has remained true to who i am as an artist and as a person whose touchstones remain....

light,   truth    &     JOY

yesterday i wrote a post about the new workshopthat i'll be teaching in ... SPECTRUM and......i have to tell you, i am blown away by the beautiful and heartfelt comments old and new friends are leaving and also by the release of control i'm hearing in these words to finding one's path to creative spirituality and development.  you guys have made my heart smile ...WIDE.

breath.

i am now working on the content for SPECTRUM workshopand knowing that what i'm create for YOU to enrich your creative spirit and that you are ready to embrace it all makes working on this so much more satisfying and brings much JOY to this heart of mine.
