Want a Wildly Successful Business? Work on These 2 Things

First things 1st….can I pick your brain?

Right now I’m having the most fun conversations with women AND we’re talking all things mid-life. Yes, mid-life. We exist.

And I want to have more of these conversations so we’re open about what this stage in our life is about, so we find solutions together for whe things are rough.

So, there’s a link in the Show Notes to sign up to have chat with me.

For anyone who signs up that I don’t know I hope this’ll be the beginning of a budding new friendship.

If we already know each other…what ya waiting on? Let’s hop on a call, have a chat and do a much needed catch up!

Why these convos now?

Because it starting dawning on me that we don’t talk much or enough these days about what we get up to in mid-life, what we need and how we pursue those needs.

And if I need these convos, there are many other women who want to talk to someone about what they’re experiencing as well.

THIS is your opportunity. I want to hear your voice.

Click that link in the Show Notes—bit.ly/chatswithgrace (all lower case) and put some time in your calendar to chat.

We’ll talk seriously but I can’t promise there won’t be laughter.

One more thing, if you think this topic is right up someone’s alley and would love to have a natter with someone new, give ‘em the link.

Alrighty, let’s get to today’s episode.

There are only two things that stop you from creating a successful, impactful money-making, fricken blow it outa the water business…

  1. You

  2. Your business

I know. I know.

Before you deem me coo-coo for Coco Puffs, hear me out, because by no means am I placing blame or making a judgement.

If neither of these is top of mind for you in your biz, say hello to constant stagnancy, more than likely you will not move the needle, for growth or profits any further than it is right now.

The first way that can stop you from creating your wildly successful business is, well….

YOU.

Stress in business is inevitable. Mindset crap is also inevitable.

But it’s how you respond to both these scenarios cropping up, time and time again, that affects your results.

If your head isn’t clear enough, you forever remain on the hamster wheel of life.

This is where stuck and overwhelm like to hide out, waiting for their chance to pounce and create disruption.

If you’ve done this work, or at least have started working through some of the shite stuff that comes up for you, you’ll have gathered some tools and resources to help support you during those times that keep you moving forward.

So of course, right….your success IS dependent on you…in particular, the mindset you bring to your work.

When you do your inner work by confronting the thoughts that drag you down and getting rid of habits that impede you, your overall productivity increases…but without adding to your stress or workload.

You’re able to concentrate on the things that grow your business— like launching that new product or increasing/decreasing your client load because the other two are not constantly distracting you.

Your Biz

Now, the 2nd one I mentioned, your biz, what I’m talking about for this one might not be as obvious.

How could your biz stop you from being successful? This one is about your actual biz systems.

The structure of and the processes you put in place to help you run your business more efficiently and effectively for both you and your clients or customers, so you don’t encounter surprise bottlenecks or hiccups.

And by biz systems, I don’t only mean the software you use.

Your full biz system suite includes your mental, energetic AND back end. (ahem….not your butt)

What am I referring to exactly?

Your Mental Systems include your internal & external boundaries.
Your Energetic Systems include your habits and your productivity.
And your Back End Systems include any operating software like a CRM and any contractors you hire.

For instance, let’s take client boundaries, which a client of mine actually experienced for the first time about 2 years ago.

In business we make every effort to accommodate our client’s or customer’s needs, BUT, there are times when more firm boundaries are required.

Like when a client needs to change their regular appointment for the 3rd time even though you’ve stated there can only 2 cancellations per signup period.

Or when a customer is dissatisfied with their digital purchase and insists on a refund even though it clearly states otherwise.

During this time your stress level can ramp up and leave you feeling vulnerable or uneasy and, just this once (you say to yourself), you go against what you would normally do.

The biz system to forestall this happening is the boundaries you’ve instituted and consistently follow through on, both mentally and contractually.

And sticking to them.

When you allow yourself to step over a boundary you’ve established, that one decision this one time, automatically produces a 2-fold result.

You’ve created a narrative in your mind and a precedent with your client that firm boundaries are flexible.

The system to have in place that bypasses the need to have to think about or have a confrontation with is your contracts - with yourself and your clients.

A contract is an integral part of the system you’ve created that outlines what you contractually will be responsible for AND what will not be allowed.

Now you will have a formal “contract” per se with yourself, but you can create an Honour’s Agreement, an internal biz manifesto or creed you choose to follow that honours your values and beliefs.

Another system that you might not view as part of the suite of systems needed for your biz is understanding your energetic capacity.

We’ve all done this at one point or another.

Pushed ourselves beyond our limits, being in that zone of massive productivity not taking notice of what’s happening around us or in our bodies.

Because if we don’t do a thing, it won’t get done, right? Cause as solopreneurs, we wear all the hats.

In terms of your business’ energetic system, this can look like figuring out how YOU, your body really, operate on a daily.

It’s stuff like this that we don’t pay attention to and wonder why we find ourselves in a slog or slump not able to move as efficiently.

I’m talking in particular about the things that affect your habits and your productivity. i.e. your energetic capacity.

Throughout our day we go through stages of high energy and low energy, both mentally and physically.

There are times when your synapses are firing like crazy. You’re powering through on a natural high.

And other times when you’re just lagging and you don’t feel like you have enough energy to think a thought far less perform another task.

What needs to happen is to be able to work on the tasks that best utilize your energetic output during each of these periods of high and lows.

You need a process to figure this out and a system to regularly implement.

This could be as simple as designing a workday schedule (the system), to take full advantage of your energetic swings.

For instance, these days, I am most productive 1st thing in the morning. It’s the time I spend writing new project content, email sequences, podcast scripting…#allthethings.

Funnily enough, this wasn’t always the case for me.

Previously, in the evenings, after my kids had gone to bed was my ideal creative time. I would stay up till 2am sometimes and not even notice the time passing by.

I reserved my daytime hours for adminy-type tasks because this type of work didn’t tax my mental capacity.

It’s the complete opposite for me these days as I said

To that end, I’ve created a tool to help you figure out your high and low periods so you can design a work schedule that fits how your brain AND your body best operate.

You can find the link to download this FREEBIE in the Show notes.

Couple of things to note about all of this and what I shared.

Knowing yourself more intimately, on a deeper level, how YOUR brain operates is key to ending the cycle of stops and starts you may be experiencing as you continue on the road to manifesting your wildly successful business.

The biz systems are a part of that manifestation as well. You can’t know where you‘re going until you know where you are.

And, to know where you are means getting clear on what you actually have.

Do you have the necessary systems in place? Both back-end and internally?

Not having systems in place or, for that matter, not knowing what’s there and how they help or hinder you, keeps you from leveling up.

Want a Wildly Successful Business?

Concentrate on these 2 things—your inner work on both you and your biz.

When you take care of the insides (mind & business), things will start to flourish, and you’ll start to notice the difference in 2 ways…

How you show up and how your biz thrives.

Needing support with the 1st so you can get to the 2nd. Let’s talk about how I can help.

Alrighty then, till next time,

Be Brave.
Be Bold.
Stay Badass.
