How Your Identity Reinforces Your Perception of "Self"

Who are you?

This is the first question I always ask my guests when we sit down to record this podcast. In fact, it’s the 1st question I ask a new client when we first start working together.

Cause think about it.

Who YOU think you are defines your outlook, your thinking, your actions and, in some instances, your inactions.

Who you identify as is key to who you present to the world at large and, more importantly, to yourself, the person you greet in the mirror each morning

Identity, then, is an important aspect of our lives as humans and, most especially I feel, as women.

This core piece of our humanity, how we identity ourselves, is integral to the work I do as a coach in order to help women move past whatever stuck they’re experiencing.

In a Psychology Today article I read while doing research for this episode I came across these words

“Identity encompasses the memories, experiences, relationships, and values that create one’s sense of self. This amalgamation creates a steady sense of who one is over time, even as new facets are developed and incorporated into one's identity”.

And there’s the rub, the point of it all, who we are over time. It shifts and changes. It ebbs and flows as we experience the highs and lows of our lives.

Who you are today is not who you were 10 years ago. Heck, who you were last year or 6 months ago is not who you are today.

Our experiences shape us and defines us. These experiences and memories give context to our lives.

It helps to define and even redefine our values and our mindset over time.

It gives meaning to the life we live, how we live and, who we choose to love….even how we love ourselves.

I have long been fascinated with how we humans, women particularly, tick.

The things we do and what we tell ourselves inform how we show up.It’s one of the reasons why I started this podcast.

To share ways to move beyond what you know so you can be who you need to be, regardless of any external forces coming at you or internal IBSC thoughts trying to shape the narrative.

In a nutshell, it’s about how to be you.

That’s why I’m excited to about these next few episodes. I’e been having conversations with some empowering badass women who are very clear about their identity…..now.

As you listen, you’ll here them start from their beginnings as they talk about the experiences that shaped who they are today and why they do the work they do.

Earlier in this 2nd season of the podcast you met 2 rocking women, Melissa Muirhead and Racheal Cumberland Dodd, entrepreneurs who are turning heads in their industry.

I’m so glad I got to talk to them and bring them to you.

This time around you’ll meet Danielle Nicole, Mars Lord and Franchelle Caesar, women who I believe are Black Coach Magic for the phenomenal work they do as black coaches.

The reason I wanted to showcase these 3 women is because first I believe in their power as black women.

Plus I wanted to showcase their expertise to the forefront and how they support women in the spaces of money, lived trauma and black bodied power.

Three powerful forces. Three phenomenal voices. Three engaged hearts doing work they love.

The next episode is your first introduction to these remarkable women. Hmmm….you’re welcome.

Hey, if you’ve not subscribed to the podcast yet. now is as good a time as any to start following so you’ll be notified when these episodes go live.

I am in awe of these women and I think you will be so inspired as well.

Alrighty then, till next time,

Be Brave.
Be Bold.
Stay Badass.
