how to use a visual journal + visual journaling #2

the shop re-opening is 1 week away!

i'm so excited and i'm so very nervous....and, and, and my new booklets journals ARE the star of the show.

these booklets are filled with 48 pages of 28lb paper, perfect for writing AND visual journaling and that's exactly what i wanted to show you in the next couple of weeks ...ways in which you can use them.  today i'll be doing some visual journaling.

what's a visual journal?

[bctt tweet="Visual journaling is just what it says...journaling with pictures and/or collage to tell your story. " username="kgracehowes"]

as a mixed media artist { see me working on some pages here } i still enjoy the collage process and combining it with my journaling i get to be creative in my practice and, the perfect place to do some visual journaling, is in my new booklets.

communing with nature

one of the things we as a family always like doing is visiting local state parks to walk the trails. it was such a  beautiful day with no rain in site.  i can't do much walking {complications from a foot surgery a few years ago } but when i can i'll walk until i can't.

funny how it took a bit of "persuading" on our part to get #coopthedog up on that stump for a pic but the minute we sit on a bench to snap one of us ....notice how he has no probs photobombing us.  ha!

totally loved this day and wanted to record a bit of it so here's a video of visual journaling in action in a booklet journal of course { p.s. i talk more about the paper i use for the booklets in the video}.

i've made many, many journals over the years but these simple booklets with covers that are fun and colourful make me so happy!  I hope you have fun meandering through yours as you tell you own stories in its pages.

see ya in a bit with more ways to use your booklet.

it's the 100 days of art :: january recap y'all!

i did it!  i've truly started and so far so good.  back in january i posted about my 100 days of art { read that post here }.  i am so excited about this challenge that i'll be carrying straight thru the whole year of 2016.

yay me right!!!

my original plan was to do a weekly recap { whoa girl..pull up on them britches a bit! }.  don't think that's feasible so instead i'll be doing a monthly recap.  you'll see all the artwork i've worked on during the month but not all of them will count towards my 100 pieces, some of them are works that i started before the challenge and pulled out to work on them some more or, in some cases, finish them.

{ if you follow me on instagram, which you are doing right???, you'll see me countdown the numbered pieces that are part this challenge }

and here goes...

toodles y'all, G

are you dreaming BIG yet? ....because you know, BIG DREAMS matter

Big Dreams - I dare you to

oh my, not sure i wan to put the answer to this prompt out there { not a tempting fate thing but sharing one's dreams is a thing that is so close to one's heart, you know right? } but as i said....i'll be journaling along with you so here goes.

what is one unfulfilled dream of mine and how will i achieve it?

well ok then. that was fun. talk to you guys later.

ha!  truth?  i want to own a RED barn.  i want to own a red barn and invite people in....well, not just people but you creatives.

BIG Dreams in a RED barn

i want to own a RED barn that'll house my studio on the 2nd floor loft with:

...a large light filled space with windows all around, a seating area with a comfy chair and a couch and cute, larger-than-large floor cushions { for when i need to dream some more or just relax and get inspired }

....a wet area so i can fling some paint on large canvases { or have a balloon fight with my friends }

....a pristine bookbinding area so i can fling paint, or plop water, without worry of getting it all over the clean white papers i'll be filing journals with

....a walk-in storage closet to house all my art supplies { cause i got a lot still, even after the moving purge last year } and

....a photo area near one of those large light-giving window that'll also serve as the dance break area { uh duh...gotta have someplace to let loose! }.

the main floor is where YOU come in.  it's where i will host you, the vibrant creative you who can't wait to fling some paint with me or go on a journey with me to discover HER.... your inner SOUL wisdom, to greet HER where you are, get to know who she is, what she needs and continue your journey together .....or we can just sit and sip some tea { don't worry, i'll have delish coffee too } and cozy up to a fire in colder months or gather outside on blankets on the grass on the warmer days and talk and laugh and breathe in together.

yup, a RED barn and i'm working on the achieve part right now.  my 1st step was moving to a place where i think it can i know it will happen.  what about you.....

what's YOUR BIG DREAM and how are you going to make it a reality? what one step can you do today to get nearer that dream coming true?

go now.  take a 5-minite-me-time break to share your BIG Dream in your journal.  go ALL out, be expansive, your journal can handle your big wish. and then, let's talk.  hit me up with a comment below ...or an email... with 1 sentence that sums up your BIG Dream.  i can already feel the power of its manifestation.

awww man, dreaming big feels so damn good .....and freeing.

chow y'all,
